LIP TATTOO AFTERCARE

The popularity of lip tattooing is rapidly growing, with our natural-looking signature technique lasting 2-5 years. Customized colours are chosen during the appointment to suit each individual.

Lip tattoo offers many benefits, including restoring colour to the lips, matching lip balm shades, and redefining the lip border for those who have lost their definition. The treatment is painless, with a short healing time of less than a week.

  • Waiting at least 12 weeks after getting lip fillers before getting a lip tattoo is recommended.

Information on caring for lip tattoos and general tips

After your treatment, some patients may experience minimal discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Your therapist will provide you with aftercare cream and instructions.

Following up with antiviral medications as your doctor prescribes after treatment for the cold sore virus is essential.

Doing this for optimal healing is recommended if you have a cold sore virus.

After getting your lip tattoo, use your aftercare cream multiple times daily for 14 days. Apply it with a cotton tip for optimal healing and colour retention.

The aftercare will include the first 14 days

  • Avoid using soap, cleansers, or facial products on the treated area for 14 days, using only water.
  • Avoid wearing lip makeup for 14 days.
  • Clean the area with water by dabbing gently with a wet cotton pad, then pat the area dry in the morning and at night, and after eating and drinking.
  • You will be given either tattoo balm or Bepanthen Nappy Rash Cream to apply as needed to keep your lips continuously moisturized.
  • Swimming in chlorine or seawater is prohibited for 14 days after treatment.
  • It is essential to keep the tattoo moist for successful healing and to prevent over-scabbing and dry lips.
  • Avoid picking at scabs on your lip tattoo, as this can cause the colour to come off. It is expected to experience flaking or scabbing between days 2-6 after the tattoo. During this period, ensure to keep your lip tattoo well moisturized.
  • It is recommended to avoid consuming foods containing chilli, vinegar, or lemon during the first month after getting a lip tattoo to prevent potential chemical burns or damage.
  • The tattoo's colour may appear lighter or darker and may be patchy during the healing process over the first three months. Actual color is typically seen around 8-12 weeks after the initial session. A chart will be provided to help explain the colour implantation process and stages of healing.
  • Please do not anticipate the complete healing of your colour within this time frame.
  • It is typical to see colour changes in the lips during the healing process, with significant changes occurring in the first two weeks and further healing taking place over the next 2-3 months. Referring to the provided chart can help you understand the healing process.
  • Contact us only after the two-week care period if there are discrepancies from the picture chart guide.
  • If you experience any complications, such as a cold sore, please consult your GP first and then inform me after the two-week healing phase. If this has caused any concerns regarding colour loss, I will be able to provide a solution.

Tattoo Lip

Not keeping your lips moisturized and chemicals-free for two weeks may lead to patchy healing.

It is important to avoid picking or pulling dry skin in the first two weeks after getting a tattoo, as it can negatively affect the quality of the tattoo.

The lips need to stay hydrated for optimal healing.

After 14 days, keep taking care of your lip tattoo

After healing for 14 days, apply sunblock on your Cosmetic Tattoo and moisturize your lips. Sun exposure can cause fading and colour change over time. Keeping your lips soft and subtle ensures smooth colour uptake during the 12-week colour implantation period. Use lip balms with SPF to hydrate and protect your lips.

After 14 days, it is safe to start swimming. Still, it is essential to cover the Lip Tattoo with Vaseline for an additional six weeks when swimming in chlorinated water to prevent any bleaching effects. It is crucial to avoid any chemicals that could interfere with the bonding process, including peels or harsh exfoliants, as they can lighten the colour of the Lip Tattoo over time.

Further information on aesthetic healing

The colour of the lip tattoo may appear bright at first, then become patchy by day three and lighter by day 5. It will usually settle within seven days. The actual colour will fully show after 10-12 weeks. The colour may look different throughout the day due to your skin's reactions and lighting. Other activities and body temperature can also affect the appearance of the colour. It may take 12 weeks for the lip tattoo colour to settle ultimately. The lips may look healed after 5-7 days, but the actual colour settles after 12 weeks. Refer to the healing chart for visual support.

Typically, touch-up appointments are scheduled every 8-12 weeks. This follow-up visit is where the final decisions are made on colour, shape, intensity, and finish. Any areas needing additional support with colour absorption will also be addressed during this appointment. It is essential to be patient throughout this process.
